About

Professor of Art, Artist ( www.dianelevesque.net )

My own work as an artist has always been influenced by art from Mexico, India, Nepal and other places I've discovered in books, but have never visited. I am also greatly inspired but the literature and writers of these places. A few of my favorite authors are Jorge Luis Borges, Roberto Bolano, Remedios Varo, and Gabriel Marquez.

I received Gusti Ngurah Semarajaya's expertly hand-carved and painted "THe Mystic Hermit" doll arrived about a week before Christmas. It was so delightfully wrapped that I resisted the urge to open it immediately and put the lovely box under our Christmas tree. When I opened the box this morning, my entire family was able to enjoy this beautiful doll with me. Gusti's work is so well crafted and painted, with an attention to detail that is masterful. The calm and peaceful expression on "The Mystic Hermit" made a striking contrast to the dragon flying through the clouds that is painted on the turban which covers the hermit's head. It is as if we can see the Mystic Hermit's thoughts. As an artist, I am inspired by the care and creativity that was given to the artistry of this doll. I am so amazed that such beautiful work is so affordable, which allows me to buy them, and more importantly gives Gusti the ability to continue to make a living as an artist. "The Mystic Hermit" will have a special place in my home. I highly recommend Gusti Ngurah Semarajaya's work.
