I bought a sculpture of St. Francis made by Diego Canil not only because I like the whimsical nature of the item, but because of the story associated with the artist. I had just finished a nine year process of writing a book on the Mayan Calendar, that focuses on ways in which the calendar energies connect with personal lives and world events, at about the time when my beloved dog needed major surgery. Short version of a long story is that this St. Francis sculpture is a gift for the wonderful and very holistic vet/surgeon who saved her life. My dog is named after the Mayan goddess Ix-Chel and her healing journey covered precisely one 260 day period (one cycle) in the Mayan Calendar (see www.whitepuppress.ca). It seemed very fitting that the gift for this vet should be made by an artist from Guatemala. Marguerite Paquin
